RULES OF THE GAME

Click here to download the international rules of pétanque.

The rules of pétanque are rather simple, have been modified over the decades, and are continually changing in slight ways. Casual play is usually covered by the basic standards while tournament competition must adhere to strict guidelines which my differ from country to country. The worldwide governing body for competitions is the Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal (FIPJP).

La Boule du Desert is a member of the Federation of Pétanque USA (FPUSA) which is affiliated with the FIPJP. The FPUSA rules and guidelines govern official tournaments held by that organization as well as typical play in Palm Desert.
